Vulnerability and ethics for an uncertain world

Vulnerability and ethics for an uncertain world

An interesting starting point to talk about the effects of the pandemic is the interview with the Slovenian thinker Slavoj Žižek posted in El País the 25 of January of 2021. In it, the philosopher touches on an essential point to survive the catastrophe with some humanity: the ethics of ordinary people, understood as an awakening of solidarity that responds to the needs of others. In the face of uncertainty, the incompetence of the public and private sectors, social institutions and the renewed debate on inequality and privilege, the only thing left to us is the capacity for mutual care. This is reminiscent of the ultimate freedom that Viktor Frankl spoke of: the freedom to decide the attitude with which we face circumstances.
