Stolen childhoods: the number of girls and boys subjected to child labor is growing

On June 12, the World Day Against Child Labor was commemorated under the slogan "Universal social protection to end child labour." Figures published by the International Labor Organization (ILO) warn that advances to eradicate child labor have stalled for the first time in 20 years and the trend towards the reduction of child labor has been reversed, which had been registering a significant decrease 94 million from 2000 to 2016. COVID-19 and the consequent closure of schools is only putting more children in this situation. Faced with this worrying situation, the ILO together with its strategic partners call for more investment in social protection systems and plans, in order to establish solid social protection floors and protect minors against child labour.
