The importance of ethics in times of pandemic: respecting vaccination is prioritizing the victims, as requested by Unesco

A couple of students dressed as residents infiltrate the line of medical staff at a public hospital to get vaccinated against COVID-19. A group of 560 people from a private club was inoculated before the nation's seniors could even sign up on a website to separate a shift. When Ecuador is counting its fourth Minister of Health in a year, overwhelmed by the health situation derived from the coronavirus pandemic, experts speak about another crisis in the country: the lack of ethics.

The action of the national government in the application of vaccines generates distrust and discontent in the population, but taking 'a short cut' to get vaccinated in advance, without submitting to the same requirements and waiting times as others, is so at odds with the Ethics such as occupying the places for the preferential service of vulnerable people in public transport, banks or supermarkets, situations that are seen daily and that represent individualism, lack of empathy with the other and not being ashamed of that. It is not a question of socioeconomic classes, but of values, say those consulted.
